I first saw The Mosaic Center as I was driving down Lufkin Avenue one afternoon and wondered “What is that place?” I had recently been laid off from ConAgra and had the time to attend classes, so I enrolled in the Job and Life Skills Core class. The Mosaic Center brought out the leadership in me. I had left home at 18 years old and had been searching for something ever since. The Mosaic Center means salvation to me. I was saved while attending class there under the guidance of Ms. Valetta, Ms. Carol and Ms. Vergie and I thank the Lord for that! I have always believed that life is what you do with it—not what happens to you. I have since put two of my three kids through college (enrolled at the same time) and am now buying a home. I have a great job as the Manager of It’s Fashion. I thank the Lord for The Mosaic Center.
The Mosaic Center definitely changed the course of my life. I learned so much in a short amount of time. Everything I learned there was of great value to me. Besides learning life skills, The Mosaic Center also taught me how to become a better wife, mother, and human being. Most of all, they taught me how to have a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ! I also learned that it is never too late to have a career; when I left Mosaic, I started studying at AC. It wasn’t easy at first because I had to take remedial classes, but thanks to God I managed to get through those hard days. To all the volunteers at The Mosaic Center, I want to say thank you for everything you do to help people like me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, your experiences, and your time. Every day that I spent at the Center I felt important, respected, worthy, and most of all, I felt loved. I will never forget what was given to me and there might be a day when I am able to volunteer at The Mosaic Center.
Without a doubt, The Mosaic Center saved my life. I am alive today because of the love I was shown by all my instructors. They didn’t judge me, they loved me, which was something I had never felt even from my own family. The love was unconditional. It was amazing and I’m very grateful for everyone. I am currently looking for a part-time job.
